We often talk about the fact that God has a plan for our life, or that God knows when things should happen, or that God is control of everything, or that God determines how long someone is going to live. It’s a fairly oft-heard phrase to say that when someone dies they have completed the tasks God set for them, and therefore He has called them home.
In my experience, in Christian circles, these things aren’t questioned all that much.
But I was thinking – if we accept that God has a plan for our lives, and that He is in control of everything, and therefore, He is in control of when we die, then doesn’t it stand to reason that God knows exactly what we should doing each and every second of our lives?
If He has planned my life out, and He has also allotted a certain amount of time to me then shouldn’t every moment of my time here on earth count? Not that I should be doing exactly the same thing every day, or every moment. But that each moment I am alive, God has something that He wants me to do.
So shouldn’t I stop only wondering about what God wants me to do next year (not that I shouldn’t pray about that), and start looking also at what He wants me to do each moment. Every day.
If I am made for Him, to bring glory to Him, then shouldn’t every moment of my life reflect that? Not just the ‘big’ moments, but every moment?
There’s a saying that’s fairly well-known now. What Would Jesus Do? It’s easy enough for me to ask that in the ‘big’ or at least ‘bigger’ moments in life. What does God want me to do when I finish Uni? What mission does God want me to be involved in? and so on.
But it’s a lot harder to consider that in the moment to moment business of living my daily life. When I’m running late – What would Jesus do? When I’m annoyed at someone – what would Jesus do? When I have a spare moment of time – what would Jesus do? When I wake up in the morning – what would Jesus do?
I can’t help but think that should I really live that way. To live each and every moment for God. Considering His plan for my life. Seeking His guidance. Then my life would be so different. Because every single moment would count.
Afterall, when my life is like the grass, that comes and goes so quickly (see Psalms 103:15-16) , then shouldn’t every moment count?
