NaNoWriMo WINNER! (and FINISHED!)

So, I figured a quick update was in order before I went to bed.

I had some friends over from the 21st to the 27th. Hence the no writing during that time. And why I pushed so hard for 50,000 words beforehand.

So anyway, they left in the morning the 27th. Giving me four days (27th-30th) in which to try and finish my novel.

Yes, I had 50,000 words, but I don’t feel like I’ve really finished until the story is complete.

So, Friday the 27th: 55,049 words

Saturday the 28th: approx 59,500 words (I can’t remember the exact right now, maybe 59,475? or 59,5??, maybe 59,6??)

Sunday the 29th: 74,875 words – well, around 72,200 according to the NaNo validator, but we’ll go with what my computer says… (and yes, my fingers did have something to say about that). I’m pretty sure that that’s a personal best for wordcount in one day. Just over 15,000words.

Today, Monday 30th: 82,833 words (well, 80,184 according to the NaNo validator… but I based all my daily, weekly, etc personal wordcount goals off my computer’s one, so I like that one better).

And I’m FINISHED. As in, the novel is COMPLETE. (okay, yeah, it needs editing. But I got through it. The first draft is written.
And it’s the NaNo I’m most proud of so far. The story I like best. And the first time I’ve done NaNo whilst working full time. AND, with almost a week of no writing in there… okay, all past NaNo’s seemed to involve a week or more of not writing, but not while working fulltime!)

Basically: I’m stoked! (there may have been some slight yelling of ‘yes’ in the house when I finished. And laughing).

(I’m not sure whether the icons for this year are as cool as last year’s Dawn Treader-esque viking ship, but the fireworks are a nice touch!)

So, today I was shopping with friends… in Big W…

and I managed to get ‘Crocodile Tears’, the latest Alex Rider book, for just under $12.

*doing a lil happy dance inside*

So everyone can guess what I’m currently reading, yes? Yes!

Will review it when I’m finished. But so far (one and a bit chapters in), it’s looking just as good as all the others

NaNoWriMo – 50,593words!

So, it’s day twenty, and I’ve just hit 50,593 words.

Which, is not only a personal best for this early in the month, is also my goal for this point in time. Because I most likley won’t be writing again until next friday. So I wanted to hit the 50,000 before then.

My story isn’t finished yet – and has a whole heaps left in it… so I’ll try to get it finished by the end of November, but if it keeps increasing in plot like it has been, that may not happen.

We’ll have to see how I go.

For now – I’m just happy to have met my target.

And I’m off to watch Star Trek.

NaNoWriMo – Day 16

So… writing on the weekend, instead of being a major activity… kinda… flopped…
In other words – I didn’t actually get all that much written. Oh well.

I have, however, managed to pump out quite a few words today, bringing the total to 30,583. Which I’m fairly pleased with.

Even if there are times I wish I was doing something other than writing. Of course, there are also those times when my brain is spinning and churning out ideas and I feel like my fingers can’t quite keep up with my thoughts.

I’m aiming to have around (or almost) 50,000 by the end of the week. We’ll see how that goes.

I’m also wondering if the story can be fit into 50,000words. Of course, part of me doesn’t want to make it so short…

NaNoWriMo, Day 13

So, it’s Day 13. And I now have 24,443words. Which is probably an amazing record for me for this early in the month.
Still, the more I write the more convinced I am that this story is going to go way over 50,000 words.
Plus, there’s a week coming up (21st-27th Novemeber) where I probably won’t be writing much. So I’m trying to get in as much writing as possible before then.
As usual, the more I write the more my plot unfolds, and my notes increase.

I didn’t write anything yesterday due to having a bit of a Star Trek marathon with a friend. If I wasn’t doing NaNoWriMo I’d so be writing reviews for each episode of the original series.

Anyway, it’s now later than I planned, but I’m pretty happy with my wordcount. We’ll see how tomorrow goes.

NaNoWriMo – Day 11

Well, it’s day Eleven, and I’ve just passed 20,000 words (sitting at 20,018 to be precise). So I’m fairly pleased with that.
Of course, when I opened my story on my PPC earlier and checked my wordcount I lost about 400 words somehow… I think because some programs count words with – in them as one word, and others as two, or something like that. But I’m basing it off my OpenOffice wordcount.

Of course, I’m no-where near 2/5s of the way through my story, so it’s likely that I’ll end up trying to write more than 50,000 words anyway.

Oh, and the air con is now working. Which is lovely.

NaNoWriMo – Day 9

So, it’s Day 9 of NaNoWriMo, and it’s also almost 11 at night.
I’ve hit 14,000 words (14,180 to be exact), which is just under where I should be according to the little graph on my NaNo page… (15,000).
Of course, I’m also hoping to get most of it written before the 22nd.
Oh, and I’ve realised that I think this story is going to be longer than 50,000 words. Just saying.

Worse than that, the weather has heated up and my air conditioning isn’t working.
The mini-fan is wonderful – but not quite the same.

Now I’m off to bed before a I collapse.

NaNoWriMo – Day 7

So, this year, I decided that I would start NaNoWriMo on day one. For once. So I did. I managed to get out around 1,670 words.
Without having any idea what I was writing about. And as much as I’ve done that in the past and loved it, for some reason, this year, I was really struggling with it.
Probably because I decided to write Science Fiction. Which tends to need some thought, etc.
So in the end, I hated what I was writing so much that I decided I needed to start again. And, after thinking about it, and coming up with an actual PLOT and a PLAN and WRITING IT DOWN ON PAPER…. I did.
Now, it’s Day 7, and I have 11,065words (which is almost 5,000words written just this evening). And I’m enjoying it.
I have a plot, I know where I’m going with this. And I’m liking it.
Although, I am wondering whether 50,000words are going to be enough to fit everything in my plot in.
Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to see how I go.

NaNoWriMo – Day One
