The End of an Era…

… well okay… maybe not quite.
Like many others, I’ve just finished my final year at Uni. Which means no more studying (well okay, I doubt I’ll ever stop learning things, but no more pressure to learn this and do that… for now, at least). And it means that I’m kind of at a crossroads in my life. Where do I go from here?

I figure the best thing to do right now is ask God what He wants me to do. Where He wants me to go.

While I’m doing that, I also have a bit more free time on my hands. And I was reminded that I’ve been neglecting this poor blog. Hence the post.

It’s also November, which means that NaNoWriMo is in full swing my now, and I, having waited to finish Uni work before starting, have yet to put pen to paper (or fingers to the keyboard). So my total wordcount is on zero.

A lot of my thoughts recently have been taken up by Narnia. The reason for this, of course, is due to the fact that the Prince Caspian film came out recently. Well, a bit ago. It’s taken me a bit to get around to blogging about it.

Of course, being me, watching the film wasn’t enough. I also re-read the book. And Voyage of the Dawn Treader. And re-watched The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. So I’ve been rather Narnia-focused for a bit.

It was after watching LWW again that I was thinking about their titles. You know, High King Peter, the Magnificent; Queen Susan, the Gentle; King Edmund, the Just; Queen Lucy, the Valient. And I was thinking, what would my title be?

Every Moment of my Life

We often talk about the fact that God has a plan for our life, or that God knows when things should happen, or that God is control of everything, or that God determines how long someone is going to live. It’s a fairly oft-heard phrase to say that when someone dies they have completed the tasks God set for them, and therefore He has called them home.

In my experience, in Christian circles, these things aren’t questioned all that much.

But I was thinking – if we accept that God has a plan for our lives, and that He is in control of everything, and therefore, He is in control of when we die, then doesn’t it stand to reason that God knows exactly what we should doing each and every second of our lives?

The Price of Love

I was thinking about Valentine’s Day the other day, and it made me start thinking about love, and what would be the best thing someone has ever given you for Valentine’s Day – or just any time really. I’m of the opinion that it’s more special for someone to buy you something on a day that has no special significance then to remember Valentine’s Day (not that I’d particularly want them to forget).

 But I’m getting off-topic.

I was thinking, what would be the best thing you’ve ever been given? The thing that most makes you sure that someone loves you?

Chocolates and Roses get crossed off the list immediately. After all, they’re pretty generic (at least in Western Countries), and don’t need much thought.

Something special, something that has meaning, something specific – that would probably be pretty high up in the list, right?

Well, what’s the best thing I’ve ever been given? A nice card or meaningful letter? Something that was very expensive? Something I really wanted? Something handmade? Maybe if someone helped you to reconcile with an old friend or family member you’ve been apart from for a while?

And I realised that I’ve been given all of those things – and all by the same person.

Romance Academy

I was checking my email this afternoon and I saw this ad for a ‘romance academy’. ‘get a lesson in love’ or some such thing. It sounds kinda like a bad Mills and Boon title and tagline.

And it made me laugh. But it also made me wonder. Who would go clicking on such an ad? Who would be interested in a Romance Academy? On learning how to love?

Is it an indication of people desperately trying to find something that sells that such a thing exists? Or is it an indication of a severe lack within society. A need for love. To know love.

New blog

Just another quick note to let you know that I have finally started up my ‘conversations’ blog. A blog entirely in comics

Each post is a comic, which was inspired by a conversation of some sort, hence the title.

At the moment the plan is to update every week, if not more often then that. I also have a ‘backlog’ of comics, so updating shouldn’t be too much of a problem for a while.

The new blog can be found here

This is just a rather short post this time, to let you all know that I now have a DeviantArt account. Basically, DeviantArt is a website where you can sign up and post artworks. Both Pixie and Cat have accounts and have told me in the past that I should get one. So I did.

And now, finally, I’m letting you know.

So, if you’re interested, you can find it here: http://starre-o.deviantart.com

A poem, a bus and a bag.

Although perhaps it should be a bus, a poem and two bags. That is, after all, the order that it happened in.

The problem with not blogging consistently and often is that I end up with all these ideas bouncing around in my head of things that I want to say, and then I have to try and get them all into the one post. This time I have an incident with an ‘exploding bus’, a poem that just kind of came to me – and I’d love some feedback on, and something I learnt about worrying. We’ll have to see how I go.

I’ve been saying quite a few times lately that ‘I need to blog that’, but then I don’t actually end up doing anything about it. Which isn’t so great. It also means that I’ve been sorely neglecting this blog.

That said, that phrase did pass my lips the other day. Why? Because, sometimes, someone says something that I just know that I have to blog about. This time – it was lilBro. And his phrase? “MacGyver was the most awesome hero there ever was.”

(now, just in case lilBro ever ends up reading this, and he disagrees with the exact wording of that statement, let me please make clear two things. One, as the scribe, I am exercising my poetic license. Two, I am fairly sure that if anything, the ‘most awesome’ could be changed to ‘best’ or some other synonymic-type word).

This, I felt, was a phrase that it was worth writing down, and taking note of. Not because it was such a startling phrase, but because it was lilBro who said it. I had no idea he had such admiration for Mac.

So here I am, finally, blogging it.

That said, I’m looking at my title, and it strikes me as kind of strange to say something like that about MacGyver. I mean, sure, I like the guy. (and yes, I do have the first four seasons on DVD). And I do think he’s an ‘awesome hero’. But that’s not the point.

The part that strikes me as odd is the next part – ‘there ever was’. What a definitive statement! To say that out of all the heroes – ever, MacGyver was the ‘most awesome’. He beat all the others out for that title.

Now, much as I like MacGyver, I’m going to have to disagree.

Well, I’ve been thinking for the past week? Two weeks? Ages? That I should update this blog. Afterall, that is what it’s here for, isn’t it?

And then I would think, ‘I should blog about that’, but never actually get around to doing so. I am now getting around to doing so (as I have just had another thought like that… one that goes, ‘I should blog about that’).

Basically, I have just found out (although I would like to claim prior knowledge, which would show my magnificent intellect to full, and perhaps illusive, effect, but that would not be entirely true), that Wolverine means she-wolf.

Huh?

Which, personally, I find particularly interesting in light of the X-men character by that name (which is, incidentally, how the information first came to light). I am, I believe, not alone in my amusement at this situation.

Such, a, well, ‘manly’ for lack of a better and more appropriate (or perhaps politically correct) word, character, has a name, which, everytime someones uses said moniker to address him, labels him as a female. Sweet.

That said, I don’t have much else to talk about right now.

I am in the midst of a rather involved art project (which is not for public viewing so far). And have done some other quick art pieces, but nothing really worth sharing.

My writing has been coming along slowly – a few bits and pieces here and there since I last wrote, but I still need to look into ‘friend-locking’ or whatever it’s called some posts so that I’m not sharing my writing indiscriminately with the entire net-connected, and interested, world.

Starre.
